John Wayne Schulz didn’t go on to the big stage in his first “Idol” attempt in January 2011, losing a chance to perform as semifinalist. He would have competed against Scotty McCreery who won the American Idol in the end.
But what a blessing in disguise. His mother passed away from breast cancer just a few months after his elimination, and he was able to spend that precious time with her.
He returned this year however! This time would be different… with a determination to go all the way to the big stage. “During his initial audition, he dedicated his rendition of Garth Brooks’ “The Dance” to his late mom. Then in a calculated move, the former marine rolled the dice during solo week singing “John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16,” a song made famous by none other than “Idol” judge Keith Urban.”
Keith Urban was loving the performance as he sang along. The final result??? Well Schulz earned a multitude of new fans all over America. He may not have had the judges full vote as he was eliminated once more… but who knows…. I’ve been told…” all publicity is good publicity!”
Listen below…see how you would have voted!
