Bluegrass legend Ralph Stanley has passed away at the age of 89. Stanley passed away peacefully in his sleep after a battle with skin cancer.
Stanley and his brother Carter helped to spread bluegrass music. Stanley gained notoriety late in his life for the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Stanley won a Grammy for his performance of “O Death.” He also received the “Living Legend” award from the Library of Congress.
Stanley is also a member of the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame.
