Cyndi Lauper is showing no signs of slowing down. After her successful Memphis Blues album, she decided it was time to head a little east, and headed to Nashville for her next album call Detour.
Cyndi is joined by a number of special guests for the album, including Emmylou Harris on the title track and Willie Nelson on “Night Life.” Vince Gill, Alison Krauss and Jewel are also featured on the record. Cyndi has chosen two Patsy Cline classics for the album, “Walkin’ After Midnight” and “I Fall to Pieces.”
Her meeting with Willie appears to have had the biggest reaction from her: “I tried to be professional, but you know when you’re overwhelmed — when he came in, I almost cried,” Lauper says of her first meeting with the legendary songwriter.
Another big influence on Detour was Dolly Parton. Parton doesn’t appear on the record herself, but her spirit looms large, and Lauper covered her song “Hard Candy Christmas” from The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.
Detour will be available May 6.
