Don Williams has announced he is retiring. Williams made the announcement Tuesday morning. Williams, 76, canceled stops on a concert tour last month after undergoing an unexpected hip replacement surgery. He had retired in 2006 initially, but came out of retirement in 2010.
In a statement from his publicist, Williams said, “It’s time to hang my hat up and enjoy some quiet time at home. I’m so thankful for my fans, my friends and my family for their
everlasting love and support.”
Williams was voted the Country Music Association Male Vocalist of the Year in 1978.
He had 17 number one hits, including the Academy of Country Music Song of the Year “Tulsa Time” in 1979.
