Hoosier native Joey Feek of the country music duo Joey + Rory is still alive but has gone into a “deep sleep,” Rory wrote in a blog post Monday.
He said her body is shutting down quickly.
“The hospice nurse came again this morning and said Joey will most-likely only be with us for a few more days… at the most,” he said.
Feek is fighting a battle with cancer. Last year, it was revealed her cancer was terminal. She stopped treatments and is spending her final days in her hometown of Alexandria, surrounded by family and friends.
Joey had previously said she had two goals: to live to see the Grammy’s and her daughter’s second birthday. Even though they didn’t win the Grammy, the duo said they were honored to be nominated. She was able to be there for her daughter’s birthday.
Before going into the “deep sleep,” she told her daughter, Indiana, that she loved her and “mama will be watching over you.” Rory said Joey gave their daughter “one last kiss.”
Joey said she knows she has made every day count.
Rory wrote in the blog that before going to sleep, Joey said: “I have no regrets… I can honestly say, that I have done everything I wanted to do and lived the life I always wanted to live.”
Rory ended his blog post with a note to those who have followed his wife’s journey.
“And thank you to all who have followed my wife’s beautiful journey. Who are still following. Though our hearts are heavy we all need to do our best to remember that this is not the end. It’s only the beginning.
When Joey takes her last breath here… she will take her first breath there.
